The National Marine Electronics Association will provide technical training at the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference in Tampa, Fla., on Sept. 30. NMEA 2000 basic and advanced installer certification classes will be offered. Students will receive certified installer certificates upon passing a certification exam at the end of each class. Sessions will take place at the Tampa Convention Center, the host of the IBEX Show.

“NMEA has organized and presented technical sessions and installer training courses at IBEX for several years, always drawing strong attendance and participation,” Mark Reedenauer, NMEA president and executive director, said in a statement. “This year, we are excited to offer our NMEA 2000 training and certification lineup to manufacturers, installers, technicians and boatbuilders.”

On Monday, Sept. 30, Basic NMEA 2000 Network Installer will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The introductory course covers cables, connectors, specifications physical planning and documentation, power sources and distribution, voltage drop calculations, data messages (parameter group numbers), connecting to other data sources, network setup and troubleshooting. Students will be guided through building a basic NMEA 2000 network at the end of the course.

On Thursday, Oct. 3, Advanced NMEA 2000 Network Installer will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It focuses on installations, setup and diagnostic troubleshooting of moderately complex NMEA 2000 networks. The class consists of a PowerPoint presentation followed by hands-on training and an included lunch. After the meal, students split into small groups at classroom workstations equipped with NMEA 2000 networks. The hands-on portion will give students the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in the ability to build, configure, backup network files and evaluate network conditions.
