California-based MB Sports have agreed on the terms of licensing Malibu Boats, Inc.’s intellectual property that include a one-time payment and a portion of future royalties to be made to Malibu. “The boating industry continues to show respect for Malibu’s innovations,” Malibu CEO Jack Springer said in a statement. “Today, over 20 brands directly or indirectly license our IP, and in the towboat manufacturing segment, every significant towboat OEM now licenses Malibu’s patents.” On a related note, Malibu IP is the subject of the company’s ongoing patent litigation against what Springer called “the sole exception” in the towboat space, Skier’s Choice. A court had entered a favorable claim construction against the builder of Supra and Moomba boats, who Malibu says is infringing on its patents.

It’s been a summer of milestones for Cox Powertrain. Back in June. the U.K.-based manufacturer attained EPA Tier 3 approval for its most powerful, 300-hp CXO300 diesel outboard and its Florida distributor, Ring Power, started to receive shipments of the first production units. Now, the first installation of the engines is complete, with a twin setup on an Intrepid Nomad 345. “The production CXO300 engines are everything we expected and more,” said Ring Power sales and marketing specialist Royal Hendrix in a statement. The production engines meet all our expectations and we continue to be amazed after every trip on the water.”
