The American Boat and Yacht Council announced that registration for Standards Week is open. The conference is scheduled for Jan. 10-14 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, S.C.

Throughout the week, Project Technical Committees will meet to discuss standards that are under review. Attendees learn which standards are being revised or newly considered for development, and how the standards may affect the future of boating.

“We gain valuable perspective from participating in the PTCs,” Pete Chisholm, Mercury Marine product safety engineer and ABYC’s technical board chair, said in a statement. “Mercury Marine’s dedication to supporting the development and review of standards allows us to stay at the forefront of product compliance and boating safety.”

Standards Week includes ABYC’s annual meeting, Jan. 10; the full-day Marine Law Symposium, Jan. 11; and a Standards Certification Course, Jan. 12.

“The industry needs to be part of these discussions as elements are added to the standards and as we develop new standards,” said Brian Goodwin, ABYC technical director. “The collaborations of ABYC’s PTC members are critical to ensuring the standards address current technology and remain the gold standard in boating safety.”
