Junior Achievement of South Florida is continuing its “Sea the World” program for three years and seeks donations and partners to help students discover maritime careers.
Junior Achievement’s Sea the World storefront — in the Patten Family Finance Park located at J.A. World Huizenga Center, Lillian S. Well Pavilion in Coconut Creek — will lease space and add elements to inspire the next-generation workforce, Junior Achievement said in a statement. The program serves eighth-grade students in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
“What keeps port industry executives up at night? It’s not the economy. It’s not their competitors. It’s knowing if there will be a workforce in place to carry on for them and continue to serve the needs of the industry,” said Lori Baer, executive director of the Port Everglades Association.
“Students are introduced to a great career field and well-paying, sustained, interesting and diverse jobs for their future,” she added. “At the same time, Junior Achievement lays the groundwork for a plentiful maritime-specific educated and trained workforce for the next generation.”
