Solar-electric power cat builder Silent-Yachts has purchased a new-build shipyard on the Adriatic Sea in Fano, Italy, according to a statement.

The 236,806-square-foot facility will employ approximately 250 people and will serve as the build site for the company’s Silent 60 and Silent 80 models, as well as its soon-to-launch Silent-Tender range.

“Our acquisition of the facility in Fano is a great opportunity for the city and for the nautical sector in the area,” CEO Michael Köhler said in the statement. “In 2022 we will employ approximately 250 people, both directly and indirectly, and we have expansion plans already under discussion to increase the production capacity of our sites and acquire new ones.”

Silent-Yachts builds a line of solar-electric power catamarans from 60 to 120 feet, with additional production facilities in Thailand and Turkey.
