Summit Motoryachts, a division of The Kadey-Krogen Group, today announced the availability of Volvo Penta IPS pod drives on the 54 motoryacht.
The company said in a statement that twin 600-hp IPS 800 drives will provide an estimated top speed in the upper-20-knot range. The package also offers the capability for an additional station in the cockpit for close-quarters maneuvering.
“When Summit was first conceived, there was always the intention of offering traditional shaft propulsion along with Volvo’s IPS drives,” Fran Morey, production manager for The Kadey-Krogen Group, said in the statement. “With IPS power, we’ll be able to offer a propulsion option for customers seeking a little more performance and efficiencies than a traditional shaft-powered vessel.”
The IPS-powered Summit 54 includes a Volvo Glass Cockpit with Garmin electronics that integrate engine, drivetrain and navigational system data, as well as the Interceptor trim-tab system. To keep the weight distributed amidships, the builder will employ jackshafts from the D6 engines to the pod drives.
The company will also offer the IPS package on the coupe version of the 54, scheduled to launch in 2025.
