Sunreef Yachts Eco has partnered with European Boating Industry to develop tools that can accurately predict the environmental footprint of boats. The project looks at the impact of a boat through its lifespan including material extraction, construction, use, maintenance and disposal.

“We are proud to contribute to the development of this important LCA tool for the boating industry,” Nicolas Lapp, co-founder and CTO of Sunreef Yachts, said in a statement. “The yachting world needs a holistic approach to this matter, and we are happy to share our knowledge and expertise.”

Members of the European recreational boating industry are coming together to develop the first environmental footprint methodology for vessels shorter than 79 feet. It will be backed up by a database and assessment tool and let large and small manufacturers access information for building greener boats.
