Michigan-based Tiara Yachts partnered with the U.S. Department of the Interior, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Marine Manufacturers Association and local dealer Walstrom Marine to host two “Great American Expedition” outings, on Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, on July 10 as part of the Interior Department’s Freedom 250 campaign marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“Public waters and coastlines are a fundamental part of the American landscape, and there is no better way to experience them than on board a boat,” Tiara president and CEO Tom Slikkers said in a release. “We are honored to have led these expeditions as a family-owned Michigan company that has been designing and building boats in America for over 50 years.”
The Lake Huron leg, aboard a Tiara 46 LS, included U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman; the Lake Michigan leg took participants to Hat Island, where a bald eagle nest underscored the conservation theme.
The company noted that 95% of U.S. boat sales are American-built boats, and 93% of builders are small, independent businesses, as it reaffirmed support for public water infrastructure, such as ramps and marinas.
