Vetus, a maker of windlasses and other accessories, held a piling ceremony to celebrate the commencement of construction on its new 102,000-square-foot headquarters that will double the company’s current warehouse capacity.

The new facility is being built in the same neighborhood of Schiedam, Netherlands, where the company founder William den Ouden was born.

“We can’t wait to embark on this new chapter as we move into our state-of-the-art headquarters, which also happens to coincide with our 60th anniversary year, Roy de Vette, the grandson of the company founder, said in a statement. “The contemporary new facility has been designed with staff wellbeing as a priority, making Vetus an even more desirable place to work.”

The new building will feature a rooftop solar panel array to help the company generate its own energy and the interior climate will be controlled by heat pumps. No natural gas will be used for heat, so the building will be almost energy neutral, which is in line with parent company Yanmar’s Green Challenge 2050, an initiative that seeks to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and harmful substances in all activities, manufacturing and products by 2050.

The new warehouse will have automated storage and retrieval systems in addition to an expanded pallet capacity.
