The Water Sports Foundation this week won an International Boating and Water Safety Summit Communications award from the National Safe Boating Council for its Spanish-language boating safety outreach radio campaign.

“Latinos are one of the fastest growing groups of recreational boaters in the United States,” chief executive officer of the Hispanic Communications Network Alison Rodden said in a statement. “Providing practical boating safety information via human interest stories that are relatable from personal, cultural and linguistic perspectives can help existing and new generations of boaters enjoy their time on the water while staying safe.”

The Spanish-language promotion featured three 60-second safe boating radio commercials to run prior to busy boating holidays in 2021 including Memorial Day and Independence Day. For 6 years, the foundation has partnered with the Hispanic Communications Network for a coordinated outreach campaign on broadcast, digital and social media.
