Georgia-based Carolina Skiff LLC said that based on state new-boat registration data compiled by Statistical Surveys Inc. the company was the nation’s top fiberglass-boat builder in 2012.
Statistical Surveys national marine sales manager Ryan Kloppe confirmed Carolina Skiff’s statement today and said the registration data Statistical Surveys compiled for 2012 shows that Carolina Skiff sold 2,950 new boats last year.
The builder’s total was among 36,222 boats that Statistical Surveys said were sold nationwide in 2012 in the 11- to 40-foot outboard fiberglass category. Nonetheless, Carolina Skiff’s sales were enough to make the company the top U.S. builder when all fiberglass boat types — freshwater and saltwater — and inboard or outboard propulsion in lengths 14 feet and up are considered.
“It is an honor to become America’s No. 1 fiberglass boat builder,” president and CEO Joe Kirkland said in a statement. “Carolina Skiff owners recognize that our boats possess the best combination of quality, features and affordability in the industry. Carolina Skiffs are the right boat for the right times.”
The builder said it has held the industry’s top spot in fiberglass boat sales in the saltwater fiberglass outboard-powered category since 1997.
