Valhalla Boatworks yesterday launched a new model, the V-55 Sport, at a dealer meeting in Atlantic City, N.J.

Powered by quad 600-hp Mercury V12 Verado outboards, the boat runs on a stepped bottom designed by Michael Peters Yacht Design. The firm has drafted the bottoms for all of Valhalla’s fish boats.

“The V-55 Sport represents our ability to diversify within a model to meet the needs of more owners,” Viking president and CEO Pat Healey, said in a statement. “It takes the proven performance of our 55 hull and merges it with an exciting, contemporary design that the cruising crowd will love.”

The V-55’s cockpit features a dining area with two bench seats and a table. An L-shaped galley is forward to starboard. The boat has power fold-down balconies with boarding ladders integrated into the hullsides. Viking says each platform adds 25 square feet of deck space.

An asymmetrical side-deck design has a raised starboard side to add space belowdecks in the cabin. The port side walkway is flush with the deck and leads to the bow where there’s a large sunpad and a wraparound lounge with a table.

Accessed through a port-side door, the helm deck has an aft bulkhead window and a sunroof. There are port and starboard power doors that slide aft to provide full-beam access to the control station.

Stairs to port lead below to the starboard galley and dinette to port. Accommodations include two private staterooms with queen berths. The forward master has an ensuite head with a separate shower. The day head also has a separate shower and is located forward of the amidships guest cabin.
