The Massachusetts Marine Trades Association announced that June 7-15 is Kids Boating and Fishing Week in the Bay State. Backed by Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, the annual effort aims to introduce youth to boating and fishing through a series of events.
“The more kids we can get on the water safely and smartly today, the better off our industry will be tomorrow,” Randall Lyons, executive director of MMTA, said in a statement. “This week is all about creating lifelong connections to boating and fostering future stewards of our waterways.”
This is the seventh year MMTA has coordinated the initiative, which coincides with National Fishing and Boating Week and Great Outdoors Month. Planned events include fishing derbies, hands-on boating classes and marina-hosted community days. The campaign also raises awareness about the Hanson Milone Safe Boating Bill, which mandates boating licenses for all operators beginning in 2026.
