Caterpillar has broken ground on an expansion at its Lafayette, Ind., facility. The large multi-year capital investment will increase capacity for new engines and aftermarket parts. Another new building will let the company expand its ability to build and test new engines and generators. It will also expand the campus’ footprint, and support its ability to refurbish equipment.

“We’re excited for the opportunity to further invest in our Lafayette Engine Center to continue to deliver for our customers,” Bart Myers, Caterpillar senior vice president of Large Power Systems, said in a statement. “We are grateful to the state of Indiana and the City of Lafayette for their support as we make this investment to ensure adequate capacity while enhancing safety for our employees.”

The expansion is the largest at the Lafayette facility since it opened in 1982. It will result in 100 new jobs to complement the 1,900 people already employed at the engine center.
