Mercury Marine today introduced the industry’s first V-10 outboards. The engines, which will join Mercury’s Verado family, will be sold in two variants, rated at 350 and 400 hp. The engines are built on a 5.7-liter powerhead and are 45% quieter than a leading competitor at cruise, according to Mercury. Additionally, the outboards deliver full performance on 87-octane fuel.

“The all-new Mercury V10 Verado outboards are exactly what boaters have been asking for in a 350- and 400-hp platform,” Chris Drees, Mercury Marine president, said in a statement. “They are powerful, smooth and quiet. They have many of the same fuel efficiency-enhancing features that are synonymous with our high-horsepower lineup.”

The engines weigh 695 pounds and mount on 26-inch centers — the same as a Mercury’s existing V-8 outboards. The engines also have many of the same features as Mercury’s 600-hp V12 Verado. They can be installed on a myriad of boats, from single-engine freshwater fishing boats to multi-engine center consoles and dayboats.

The engines are compatible with Mercury SmartCraft technology and will be offered with an optional dual-mode 48-volt/12-volt alternator that pairs with Navico Group’s Fathom e-power system. The e-power system is an integrated lithium-ion auxiliary power management system that can replace an onboard generator.

The V10 Verados will also work with an upcoming Mercury electric steering system for multi-outboard vessels that will ship in February 2023. The system offers enhanced steering response, simplified rigging and more than a 50% reduction in energy consumption.
