The Yamaha Marine Technical School Partnership program added three schools to its roster of participants, bringing the total to 120 nationwide. Developed in 2015, the program is intended to develop a stronger marine-technician workforce through a certified curriculum.

The schools that are now in the program are Hart County High School in Hartwell, Ga.; Monroe Career & Technical Institute in Bartonsville, Pa.; and Suffolk County Community College in Selden, N.Y.

“We understand the importance of providing exciting educational opportunities for students by offering programs such as marine technician training,” Kenyon Ward, senior marine training coordinator, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit, said in a statement. “Yamaha’s hands-on training curriculum gives students real-world experiences and further broadens the education opportunities schools can bring to the table.”

Yamaha said the growth of its technical school relationships led to the development of Yamaha-sponsored curricula available to the schools. The first curriculum, “Introduction to Outboard Systems,” includes textbook materials and hands-on learning. Students who complete the course receive Yamaha’s Introduction to Outboard Systems Certification, which is a prerequisite for Yamaha’s new Maintenance Certification Program.

MCP students receive certified competencies that prepare them for work in Yamaha dealership service departments. A dealership can take on the graduates as apprentices or full-time technicians.
