Yamaha Marine yesterday announced updates to its Helm Master EX control system and introduced XTO EC (extra cup) propellers.
“Helm Master EX is the pinnacle of fully integrated digital boat control. These updates expand the system’s features to include improvements and completely new, customer-requested capabilities,” new product introduction manager David Meeler said in a statement.

Updates to Helm Master EX include a joystick station option; improved lateral assist, which compensates for wind and current; a Pattern Steer function that adds the Williamson turn, a man-overboard maneuver; and a distance-remaining measurement component that improves the SetPoint function by displaying the total distance requested and the distance remaining in the adjustment. Yamaha says this helps operators know how much additional movement to expect when maneuvering.
Helm Master EX owners who upgrade will have access to a single-function trim assist button through the digital electric control system, which allows it to be turned on or off without using the gauge. Also new is an automatic-off timer that powers the system down after one hour of inactivity.
Autopilot course hold offset is now stackable up to 10 times. Yamaha says operators can add multiples of the preselected offset distance (10, 20 or 50 feet) by holding the joystick. A beep will sound for each multiple, and the distance remaining appears on the display.
Helm Master EX users can upgrade their software or hardware through authorized Yamaha Marine dealers beginning this spring.

Yamaha also introduced a new line of propellers designed for its 425-hp XTO Offshore outboard. The XTO EC props have increased surface area and an extra trailing-edge cup, which enhances grip.
“The new XTO EC prop helps the blades hold water longer for better grip in those applications where ventilation can be an issue,” Meeler said.
The props will be available in 17-, 21-, 24- and 25-inch pitches in left and right rotation, and will start shipping this spring and summer.
