Yamaha has unveiled a newly designed F350 outboard along with new Helm Master EX features and more pitch options for Saltwater Series II propellers.
“The F350 is the perfect big-power, lightweight option for a wide variety of applications,” Ben Speciale, president, Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit, said in a statement. “In addition, we expanded Helm Master EX variable-speed bow thruster integration for single through quint configurations to give more boaters access to the ultimate in boat control. We also added new pitches to the reliable Saltwater Series II propeller line, giving a broader array of boats access to great performance and fuel economy.”
The 4.3-liter V6 F350 has larger intake and exhaust valves than the F300 and uses the same diameter electronic throttle valve as the 450-hp 5.6-liter V8 XTO. A new crankshaft design offers a longer compression stroke, which should provide more torque at lower speeds. The engine has an 11-to-1 compression ratio, and tailored intake manifolds have surge tanks that are 40% larger than those on the F300. The 81mm electronic throttle valve is 8% larger than the 300’s valve and is center mounted.
The larger intake and exhaust valves and variable camshaft timing fine-tune the air flow through the engine. For improved durability, the F350 uses the same water sensor for overheat control used on the XTO 450. Oil cooler capacity is increased on the F350, and Yamaha uses sleeveless, plasma-fused cylinder technology in the block.
The outboard comes standard with Yamaha’s electric steering and thrust-enhancing reverse exhaust, which keeps exhaust bubbles above the anti-ventilation plate and away from the propeller when the engine is shifted into reverse. This improves thrust when backing down on a fish or maneuvering around docks.
Other highlights include a new cowling with improved cooling and two flush connections, one in the rigging tube that can be hooked up to automatic flushing systems and one for connecting a hose. The F350 will be offered in pearlescent white, traditional gray and classic white; it will be available this spring.
Also new for this year, Yamaha is integrating bow thruster control into Helm Master EX, and is using Sleipner and Vetus thrusters as part of the joystick system. The company also expanded the Saltwater Series II propeller line, introducing 14-, 24- and 25-inch pitches in right- and left-hand rotation and a 16-inch left-hand model. The series is available in one-inch increments from 13 inches to 25 inches.
