MIAMI—Grady White unveiled its largest boat to date, the Canyon 456 to the press and public at the Progressive Miami International Boat Show on Wednesday.
The new model was two years in development and has the widest beam in class at 14 feet, according to Grady White. The boat measures 45 feet long and is powered by quad Yamaha 350-hp outboards.
The company said it had a required number the boat needed to hit before it would move forward with the new model. It had to hit 50 mph with the Yamaha power. In initial tests, the boat ran 55.2 mph at 5900 rpm and cruised at 31 mph at 3700 rpm. It needed 8.5 seconds to reach 30 mph from an idle start and it stays on plane at 20 mph. Considering that the boat tips the scales at more than 30,000 pounds rigged and ready to run, those are some good numbers. To help control the ride, the boat was equipped with Zipwake Interceptors
The Canyon 456 has a fuel capacity of 600 gallons. At the helm, there’s space for three 17-inch screens in the dash panels and electronic controls for the motors. Four individual electronically adjustable seats have fold up footrests. The area is enclosed with the AV T-top that has an integrated wraparound windshield for maximum visibility and protection. Electronic side windows and a large overhead hatch let in fresh air. The top has an integrated SureShade electronically retracted cockpit shade and LED spreader lights fore and aft
To keep the ride smooth, the Canyon 456 comes with a Seakeeper stabilizer system. Yamaha Helm Master with Set Point also comes standard.
In the cockpit, the Canyon 456 features an aft-facing fishing station with dedicated air-conditioning/heating vents and seating for three people. The middle seat has a flip-up bolster that serves as a leaning bar. Tackle storage is in six boxes plus two additional gear drawers under the bolstered seating. There’s a sink to port and to starboard is an outdoor grill with a refrigerator and grill.
Aft to port and starboard, cockpit side doors are positioned for boarding or landing fish. There’s a hot-and-cold freshwater shower to starboard. Twin livewells are positioned to port and starboard and nearby is an aft refrigerated/freezer fish box.
Forward, the bow has lounge cushions atop the cabin house. The bow area has two large plumbed insulated boxes port and starboard with cushioned seats on top. Two semi-circular fiberglass tables can be lowered with the push of a button. In the foredeck, there’s storage for up to 400 feet of anchor rode and 30 feet of chain.
Belowdecks, the Canyon 456 has a berth that the company says measures 80 inches long and can double as a lounge, so occupants can watch the 32-inch flatscreen TV. The cabin also has a cedar-lined locker, large side windows, a microwave oven and six-bottle wine cooler. Forward, there’s seating for four around an electronically controlled dining table. To starboard, the head has a separate shower area.
