Nine journalists gathered Monday night at the Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort & Marina in Stuart, Fla., for the Maverick Boat Co. Media Event, where the manufacturer will be introducing four fishing boats.

“We’re introducing new boat models, but at the same time we’ve invited several of our business partners — some of the major leaders in the various segments of the market, such as Raymarine, Yamaha and Shimano,” said Charlie Johnson, director of marketing at Maverick, which builds Pathfinder, Maverick, Hewes and Cobia boats in Fort Pierce, Fla. “These companies will have product to show off, so the writers really get access to a lot in one stop.”

In addition to Johnson, Scott Deal, Maverick’s president and co-founder; Skip Lyshon, Maverick sales director; and Maverick regional sales director Brad Hawley were on hand, as well as representatives from Yamaha Motors, JL Marine (Power-Pole), Raymarine, Costa Del Mar, Shimano and Minn Kota.

Maverick’s group of new boats consists of two Pathfinders (the 2200 Tournament Edition with a single Yamaha F250 and the 2600 HPS Bay Crusher with a single F300); the Maverick 17 HPX-V with an F90; and the F150-powered Cobia 201 CC. These boats and five others from 18 to 29 feet were in the water ready for action this morning.

Marine editors were invited to fish from the two new Pathfinders and the Cobia 256 CC and Cobia 296. The new Maverick, Hewes 18 Redfisher, Pathfinder 2200 TRS and 2300 HPS and the Cobia 201CC were at the dock and available for testing.

Five of the boats are equipped with Raymarine electronics. The Hewes Redfisher 18 is outfitted with Raymarine’s Dragonfly Sonar GPS. Color hybrid touch GPS/fisher-finders are at the helms of the three Cobia boats and the 26-foot Pathfinder. Power-Pole Signature Series Blade models were mounted on three of the boats and Minn Kota trolling motors were mounted on two vessels.

Shimano provided the fishing rods and Costa Del Mar covered the sunglasses. The companies got a chance to give a presentation to highlight their products.

“The whole reason for putting a Power-Pole on a boat is to stop the swinging of a traditional anchor and stay on a spot and reach the fish in a more efficient manner,” Robert Shamblin said during his presentation. “Our products use hydraulics which are very reliable and very quiet.”

The Pathfinder 2600 HPS and the Maverick HPX-V debuted at the 2013 Miami International Boat Show. The Cobia 201CC and Pathfinder 2200 TE were unveiled during a dealer meeting prior to the media event, which runs through Wednesday morning.
