About the Role

Firecrown Marine is seeking a dynamic and experienced Editor-in-Chief to lead Soundings’ editorial operations across print and digital platforms. You will set the editorial vision, drive audience growth, and ensure best-in-class content for one of the most engaged communities in recreational marine media.

Key Responsibilities

  • Editorial Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the editorial team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Content Production: Oversee the planning, development, and production of content for digital outlets (website, social media, email newsletters) and print publications (magazines, newspapers, special editions).
  • Content Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive content strategies that enhance readership, engagement, and brand consistency across all platforms.
  • Quality Control: Maintain high editorial standards by reviewing and approving content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Team Management: Manage, mentor, and motivate a team of editors, writers, and contributors; coordinate workflows and deadlines.
  • Audience Engagement: Analyze audience metrics and feedback to tailor content offerings and improve engagement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, design, and production teams to ensure cohesive branding and timely publication.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging platforms, and new storytelling formats to keep content fresh and competitive.
  • Budget Oversight: Manage editorial budgets, resources, and vendor relationships as needed.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all content complies with copyright, legal, and ethical standards.
  • Revenue Partnership: Collaborate with the Power Group Publisher, sales and business development teams to identify content-driven revenue opportunities, including sponsored content, events, and brand partnerships.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of editorial experience, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record managing multi-platform content operations (print, web, social, email).
  • Strong knowledge of the recreational marine industry is preferred.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing editorial budgets and cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools, CMS platforms, and audience growth strategies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $80,000–$100,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
