The country’s oldest continually run regatta will celebrate its 160th edition this weekend on Narragansett Bay at Newport, R.I.
Hosted by the New York Yacht Club, the annual event this year precedes the biennial Newport Bermuda Race and serves as the first of three competitions that will count in the venerable Onion Patch Series, which includes the Newport Bermuda Race.
In addition to racing in the weekend series, all eligible yachts also can compete in today’s separately scored Around-the-Island Race.
Entry is open to yachts with a minimum length of 25 feet in IRC, Classic, 12-Meter and One-Design classes, as well as the recently introduced Cruiser-Racer and Double-handed divisions on “navigator” courses.
