The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is extending catch-and-release fishing for snook, red drum and spotted sea trout for an additional year through an executive order. The three species will remain catch-and-release through May 31, 2021, in all waters from the Hernando/Pasco county line south through Gordon Pass in Collier County on the state’s west coast.
The temporary change was made to help conserve these inshore species, which were negatively impacted by a red tide that lasted from late 2017 through early 2019, according to FWC.
