IMAGE COURTESY BOATSETTERBoatsetter announced in a statement yesterday an expansion plan that will launch its Boatsetter Academy in seven new cities. The program curriculum — presented in a free, two-hour class for novice boaters — also will expand into practical skill sets ranging from knot-tying and anchoring to casting a line, baiting a hook and using electronics.
Charter and boat rental company Boatsetter will establish strategic partnerships to develop a digital content library to complement in-person participation.
“We are now officially the largest free boating school in the country, and we only have plans to keep growing to become somewhat of a ‘Khan Academy’ for boating,” said Scott Cockburn, who heads Boatsetter Academy. “Our plans to evolve the next phase of Boatsetter Academy are all in an effort to support Boatsetter’s broader mission to make boating and on-water experiences more accessible.”
The new cities are Chicago, Phoenix, Houston, Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Charlotte, N.C. Boatsetter Academy also is offered in San Diego, New York City, Miami, Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin and Dallas, Texas, and Tampa, Fla.
