SOMARTIN – STOCK.ADOBE.COM PHOTOCanada: No Tariffs on U.S.-Built Boats Yet

The National Marine Manufacturer’s Association this morning reported that in response to U.S. tariffs on imported vehicles, Canada announced limited retaliatory measures on automobiles made in the United States and imported into Canada, but not U.S.-built boats.

NMMA stated in press release: “While the U.S. administration’s announcement last week triggered immediate concerns of a broader trade escalation, Canada’s current response does not include American-built boats. While recreational boats remain on the much larger list of products identified for possible Canadian retaliation, Canada has not yet pulled the tariff lever on U.S. boats.”

NMMA added that “this measured response by Canada provides continued, though potentially temporary, stability for cross-border marine trade.”

NMMA Canada has been working closely with Canadian officials and applying for tariff exemptions as a broader global trade war unfurls.
