The national average for a gallon of gasoline is below what Americans were paying before Russia invaded Ukraine earlier this year.

“Gasoline prices are now cheaper across the U.S. than they were a year ago, and the price per gallon could fall below $3 for most Americans by the end of the year,” CNBC reported.

AAA reported that the national average for a gallon of unleaded gasoline was $3.329 Dec. 8, compared with $3.343 a year ago.

The 15th Street fuel dock in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was charging $5.79 for a gallon of ethanol-free, 90-octane gas as of Dec. 12. Miami Beach Marina was charging $6.10 a gallon for ethanol-free, 90-octane ValvTect-treated gas, and New Port Cove Marine Center in the Palm Beach area was charging $5.75.

A barrel of U.S. crude oil hit a low for the year late last week, at $71.46.
