At Metstrade this week, the International Council of Marine Industry Associations announced the continuation and extension of its “Propelling Our Future” campaign with an update to the Pathways to Propulsion Decarbonisation for the Recreational Marine Industry report.
ICOMIA president Darren Vaux and NMMA president and CEO Frank Hugelmeyer discussed the effects of the decarbonization initiative since its launch in 2023, the global reach of the message, and the potential for future partnerships and developments.
“We have been delighted with the reception our Propelling Our Future research has received whenever we present it, and we are pleased to be able to share yet more insight, showing the importance of typical usage scenarios and how this could affect the optimum propulsion technology selected,” ICOMIA CEO Joe Lynch said in a statement.
New supporting data announced at Metstrade focuses on the “tipping point analysis,” which demonstrates the relationship between hours of utilization per year and when, as a result, the benefits of a particular propulsion technology can outweigh other options. Understanding this tipping point and the likely use-case for the boat is an important consideration for boatbuilders and consumers alike.
