PHOTO COURTESY MACK BORINGMack Boring & Parts Co. announced the passing of former company president Edward “Ned” McGovern III, who died April 14. He was 77.
“Ned will always be remembered as a generous man, a straight shooter and as tough as they get,” the company said in a statement. “Never one to complain, even as he endured his long battle with prostate cancer, he always thought of others and never would accept being a burden. He was a man of service and honor, and he will be sorely missed.”
McGovern served in the U.S. Marine Corps and in 1968 joined Mack Boring & Parts. In 1990, he became the third generation of McGoverns to take the helm and later served as co-president with his brother Steve, from 2003 to 2008. During his tenure, the company added partnerships with Yanmar, Isuzu and Scania, and the family founded the Engine City Technical Institute. Mack Boring reorganized into five business units to better position it for future growth.
McGovern retired from Mack Boring as chairman emeritus in 2014.
