PHOTO COURTESY CALIFORNIA DIVISION OF WATERWAYS California’s Division of Boating and Waterways is accepting applications from public and private marinas for the federal Boating Infrastructure Grant Program for 2024.
According to a statement, a total of $18 million is available for BIG projects nationally, and the grants can fund up to 75% of total project costs.
California State Parks said that Tier I grants of up to $200,000 are available for California projects. Tier II grants of up to $1.5 million can fund projects nationally. A total of $14 million is available for Tier II grants.
Funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program, BIG grants can be used “to renovate or construct visitor docks, restrooms, gangways and dockside utility hookups to serve transient recreational boaters with vessels 26 feet or greater in length, staying fewer than 15 days.”
Approved projects would:
• enhance access to recreational, historic, cultural and scenic resources
• strengthen community ties to the water and increase economic benefits
• promote public/private partnerships and entrepreneurial opportunities
• provide continuity of public access to the shore
• promote awareness of transient boating opportunities
