The Marine Trades Association of Maryland this week announced the launch of a technician apprenticeship program, developed with a grant from the city of Annapolis.
The initiative will provide aspiring technicians with comprehensive on-the-job training, classroom instruction and a direct pathway to careers in the recreational boating industry.
“The maritime industry has long been a part of Maryland’s economy, as well as its heritage. This apprenticeship program is a critical investment in the future of our workforce and our local marine industry,” MTAM executive director John Stefancik said in a statement. “By providing a structured pathway for training and professional development, we are not only building a pipeline of highly skilled technicians, but also creating meaningful career opportunities for residents across Maryland.”
Program details include:
• Structured training: The year-long program combines practical, hands-on experience with classroom instruction.
• Experienced mentorship: Apprentices will be paired with seasoned technicians who will provide guidance and support throughout the training process.
• Industry-recognized certification: Graduates earn industry-recognized credentials, ensuring they are prepared for a long-term career.
• Earn while you learn: Apprentices receive a wage, making education and career advancement accessible without incurring debt.
