The Michigan Boating Industries Association awarded Brian Kelley, a consultant with the Michigan Clean Marina Program, the organization’s Lighthouse Award in recognition of his support of the boating industry in the Wolverine State.

“Brian has been a dedicated CMP consultant for many years and has been a quintessential partner in the success of the program, traveling the state and having a passion for leading marinas in being environmentally conscientious and stewards for our industry,” MBIA executive director Nicki Polan said in a statement. “He has also played a major role in expanding the shrinkwrap recycling program, among other initiatives.”

The Clean Marina Program recently announced there are now 101 marinas participating in the non-regulatory initiative between the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, Michigan Sea Grant and MBIA.

“Marinas that participate in this voluntary program show they are aware of and practice good environmental and business steward practices,” said Mark Breederland, Michigan Sea Grant extension educator and chair of the Michigan Clean Marina Foundation Board. “The program is a win-win by implementing and certifying on-the-dock practices to minimize potential pollution and encouraging boaters to also take good care of the water and within the marina.”
