Mercury Marine today announced a partnership with Alliant Energy to open a 5-MW solar facility in Ledgeview, Wis. The joint project has received approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.
The 32-acre project in eastern Fond du Lac County furthers Mercury’s sustainability initiatives and the region’s commitment to renewable energy. It’s the first project to receive approval under the Alliant Energy Renewable Energy Partner tariff, according to Mercury.
“Our investment in this solar infrastructure, combined with our other solar investments, will provide clean, renewable energy and propel us toward our goal to derive 50% of our electricity usage from renewable sources by the end of 2030,” Mercury Marine president said John Buelow in a statement.
The solar facility is expected to be operational next spring, according to Mercury, and will include more than 12,000 panels generating enough electricity to power approximately 1,300 homes annually, and offset about 10% of the electricity Mercury uses at its Fond du Lac campus.
