The Marine Industries Association of South Florida announced that it completed its annual Broward County Waterway Cleanup. The effort was organized by MIASF and presented by the Florida Inland Navigational District. Organizers said it’s the longest-running environmental event in Broward County.

“While taking care of our environment is a priority 365 days a year, it is exciting to bring the community together on this one day with the mission of cleaning our waterways.” MIASF vice president Lori Wheeler said in a statement. “This event creates the impact it does because of all of our incredibly passionate volunteers.”

More than 1,100 volunteers collected refuse at 35 sites throughout the county March 5, and 320 participants gathered trash while riding personal watercraft. A few of the more unique items collected were two cars, a boat, a guitar and a large gold chain.
