Retail unit sales of outboard, inboard and sterndrive boats were up 6 percent in 2016 and corresponding dollars were up 8 percent.

Saltwater fishing boat unit sales were up 7 percent in 2016, and pontoon boat sales were up 5 percent, according to new data released by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

Unit sales of inboard boats increased for the fifth consecutive year, primarily because of double-digit growth in unit sales of ski and wakeboard boats.

Retail sales of new sterndrive boats continued to lag, although the pace of decline appeared to have moderated with unit sales down 3.2 percent to 12,200 units.

Runabout bowriders accounted for 43.4 percent of the sterndrive boats sold last year.
