The Ocean Tribute Award for marine conservation, supported by the German Ocean Foundation and boot Düsseldorf, announced that voting is open to select the winner among five finalists. Public voting ends Dec. 19, and the winner will be announced Jan. 20 during the Düsseldorf show, which runs Jan. 17-25. An award of $23,000 accompanies the international conservation prize.
“With the Ocean Tribute, we want to raise awareness for extraordinary projects and show what is possible and, above all, what is necessary. All of the projects nominated by the jury represent the respect we should show for the oceans on this planet,” show director Petros Michelidakis said in a statement.
The following five projects have been nominated:
• Iberian Orca Guardians: Spain
• Marinecultures.org: Switzerland, Zanzibar
• One Ocean Planet Foundation: Spain
