Electric propulsion and autonomy company RAD announced the appointment of Chris Shepherd to lead the expansion of its defense business. Shepherd is responsible for expanding RAD’s involvement in U.K. defense programs and positioning its technology at the core of uncrewed maritime capability.

“Chris brings exactly the blend of strategic insight, delivery experience and deep customer understanding that we need as we expand into defense,” CEO Dan Hook said in a statement. “There is a clear shift underway towards electrification, modularity and open architectures in naval capability, and RAD is well-positioned to play a leading role.”

Shepherd has extensive experience across the defense, aerospace and autonomy sectors, having held senior roles at Thales, L3Harris and MBDA, where he led programs across maritime, land and air, the statement said.
