Smartgyro, the La Spezia, Italy–based gyrostabilizer manufacturer, is expanding, making hires in engineering and marketing and relocating to larger headquarters that will allow the company to ramp up production.
Yanmar Marine-backed Smartgyro added the following staff:
• Felice Grandi, senior mechanical engineer
• Alessandro Breschi, senior software engineer
• Elisa Parri, finance
In addition, former Yanmar global marketing manager Sander Gesink was named marketing director, to be supported in that role by Elena Ratti.

The new facility in La Spezia gives Smartgyro a larger footprint for assembly and testing, as well as expanded office space.
“The expanded Smartgyro team … now contains an incredible amount of talent and industry experience,” CEO Marcel Borsboom said in a statement. “Our engineering department is fully capable of developing our range for the future, and the marketing team led by Sander will focus on the task of communicating the benefits and features of our gyrostabilizers.”
Smartgyro’s current range consists of the SG40, for boats from 50 to 60 feet, and the SG80, for 60- to 70-footers. The company said it plans to expand its line to include units for smaller boats.
