Junior Achievement of South Florida teamed with 23 marine companies to launch Sea the World, a storefront exhibit designed to show students the career opportunities. It opens May 1 in Patten Family Finance Park at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Well Pavilion.
Sea the World consists of nine walls, each one representing a discipline. They include engine room, yachting professionals, shipyard trade workers and other areas of interest, such as marina management, boat sales and boatbuilding.
“As an owner/operator of a small business invested in the maritime world, I’ve seen first-hand how difficult it is to find skilled labor to meet our business growth,” Christine Battles, CAO of Advanced Mechanical Enterprises, said in a statement. “Our industry is a gold mine of opportunities for the next generation. I’ve made a personal commitment to inspire their interest in our field, which will in turn maintain the maritime industry as a thriving economic force in the state.”
A tour Sea the World will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on May 1.
