“Boaters can easily call us on the phone or radio whenever they break down and need help, but turtles can’t,” said Capt. Brandon Upton, owner of Sea Tow Corpus Christi. “They needed help, and we were able to do what we could to save as many turtles as possible.”

A crew comprising Sea Tow captains and volunteers, as well as staff from Padre Island National Seashore, began rescuing turtles last week. They used Sea Tow airboats to get into shallows that prop boats can’t access.

The turtles will rehabilitate at the Sea Turtle Division of Padre Island National Seashore.
