The American Boat & Yacht Council’s annual Standards Week opens today in New Orleans, La., giving participants a voice in revising and introducing standards that guide boatbuilding and related systems.

Daily Project Technical Committee meetings assemble to discuss updates to ABYC’s Standards and Technical Information Reports for Small Craft, which will be published in July.

“PTCs are comprised of over 400 volunteers with a vested interest in ensuring the standards reflect what they experience, are researching, and what they envision for the future,” ABYC technical director Brian Goodwin said in a statement. “The annual ABYC standards supplement requires diverse input from those who understand where the industry is headed.”

PTC meetings this week will address:

• Firefighting and Detection Systems

• Electrical

• Fuel and Ventilation

• Control Systems

• Thermal Appliance

There also will be task-force meetings on electric propulsion and autonomous vessels to review how current standards address existing technology, and to create a roadmap for future development based on evolving technology and industry needs.
