Surveys by the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation show women are increasingly joining the ranks of U.S. anglers — as I wrote in my Jan. 26 post — and the Florida-based Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing Foundation just announced this year’s schedule of women’s events.

Marking her 26th year of introducing women and families to fishing in both fresh and salt water, LLGF founder Betty Bauman will again lead mentorship sessions emphasizing angling techniques and conservation practices, beginning next month.

For dealers identifying as a fishboat headquarters, particularly those in the Southeast, calling attention to the LLGF opportunities and encouraging customers to participate is good business practice.

At a minimum, dealers can print the LLGF schedule and post it on their customer bulletin boards. Or copy it to an email note to fishing customers. Better yet, surprise your most loyal angling customers with a thank-you that includes the $119 registration fee for an LLGF event ($95 for early registration). Even if they don’t take you up on the offer, they’ll surely remember your gesture next time they’re thinking about a new boat.

LLGF programs are known as the “no yelling school of fishing.” Each Bauman-designed event usually includes classroom instruction, followed by outdoor hands-on practice sessions. The following day, most events include offshore or inshore fishing in a friendly tournament with prizes. Participants can also use their own boats.

The 2023 schedule:

• March 4: Freshwater Bass Seminar, Dania Beach

• March 18-19: Gulf Coast Inshore Seminar, Fort Myers

• April 14-16: South Florida Saltwater Weekend Seminar, Fort Lauderdale

• May 19-21: Keys Fishing, Screamin’ Reels Tournament/Learning on the Water, Islamorada

• Sept. 22-23: Guy Harvey Outpost Bass Seminar & Tournament, Lake Wales

• Oct. 13-15: Keys Saltwater Weekend Seminar, Islamorada

• Nov. 18-19: St. Augustine Surf Fishing Academy

Tampa area bottom fishing and Bimini events are expected to be added, and several virtual meetings will also be scheduled later this year. Click here for and registration details.
