“The charm of fishing is that it’s the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.”

Those are the words of novelist John Buchan, and dozens of women will experience it when they attend the “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” University, an inshore fishing seminar March 26-27 on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Appropriately dubbed the “No-Yelling School of Fishing,” it’s an immersive educational experience hosted by Bass Pro Shops in Fort Myers and presented by the nonprofit Ladies Let’s Go Fishing Foundation. The event offers classroom instruction, hands-on fishing, conservation education, networking and optional guided boat fishing.

While it’s history and tradition has been primarily as a ladies’ event, this one will be a family affair open to women, men and teens who want to learn local fishing. Saturday morning sessions will include presentations by captains Jon Fetter, Debbie Hanson and Rob Fussnecker on inshore/backcountry fishing, equipment usage and conservation.

Saturday afternoon’s focus will be hands-on fishing skills, education and practice, including techniques for dehooking; proper releasing; knot tying; lure usage; fly, spin and net casting; fish fighting techniques; and more. On Sunday, participants can opt to fish from flats charters or a group boat.

Marking the foundation’s 20th year, founder Betty Bauman has successfully provided more than 9,000 women affordable instruction at sessions around the country. Many dealers in areas near a “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” weekend site have promoted and encouraged customers to attend.

Here is the latest schedule Bauman has released:
