The American Sportfishing Association recognized four people who it says have dedicated their careers to helping ensure that the country has well-managed fisheries and clean water, and that anglers have access to public lands and waters, as well as a viable business environment.
The industry and conservation leaders were honored at ASA’s Sportfishing Summit, held earlier this month in Stevenson, Wash.
ASA presented lifetime achievement awards to Thom Dammrich, president emeritus of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, and Mike Nussman, former ASA president and CEO.
The Outstanding Industry Leader Award went to the late Donn Schaible, who was past president of Wright and McGill Co. and an ASA treasurer.
The Fisheries Conservation Achievement Award was presented to Martin Peters, Yamaha Marine division manager for government relations.
ASA also awarded its Angling Awareness Award to veteran outdoor writer Kenneth L. Kieser, whose article “Fishing is a Calming Experience” ran in the June 15 issue of the Independence, Mo., newspaper, The Examiner. The article aims to inspire people to get involved in fishing, according to the ASA.
