The Muskegon Yacht Club in Muskegon, Mich., has been certified by the Michigan Clean Marina Program for a three-year term through 2026. Additionally, 12 existing clean marinas have been recertified for an additional five years.

“Marinas like these and the many others who participate in this disciplined program show they are aware of and practice good environmental and business stewardship practices,” Mark Breederland, Michigan Sea Grant extension educator and chair of the Michigan Clean Marina Foundation Board, said in a statement. “The program is a win-win by implementing and certifying on-the-dock practices to minimize potential pollution and encouraging boaters to also take good care of the water and within the marina.”

The 12 marinas that have been recertified are:

  • Anchorage Marine – Holland
  • Cedar River State Harbor – Cedar River
  • Duncan L. Clinch Marina – Traverse City
  • Grosse Pointe Yacht Club – Grosse Pointe Shores
  • Lexington State Harbor – Lexington
  • Linwood Beach Marina – Linwood
  • Michigan Harbor – St. Clair Shores
  • Safe Harbor Belle Maer – Harrison Twp.
  • Seng’s Marina – Manistee
  • South Shore Marine – Whitehall
  • Walstrom Marine – Harbor Springs
  • Woodland Marina – Brighton

The program said that a total of 101 marinas in Michigan have obtained certified clean marina status. The program is voluntary and participation is strongly encouraged by the Michigan Boating Industries Association.
