Nine trainees recently completed the third edition of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida’s Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship Program. The training is provided in collaboration with the Florida Department of Education and Atlantic Technical College.
Some 26 companies in the marine industry support the program, which covers painting, welding, carpentry, hydraulics, machining, rigging, HVAC and workplace employability skills.
“This program exemplifies the power of collaboration between industry stakeholders, educational institutions and government agencies to address the workforce needs of the marine industry,” MIASF vice president Lori Wheeler said in a statement. “The skills and knowledge acquired by these graduates will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success and growth of our industry.”
Apprentices receive a nationally recognized credential upon completing the program. Additionally, MIASF announced the relaunch of the Salty Jobs video series, which showcases boating careers.
