North Carolina builder Parker Offshore announced that it took part in Manufacturing Day earlier this month by collaborating with Carteret County Public Schools to educate students about career opportunities in the boatbuilding sector.

School students from several middle schools were invited to the Carteret County Community College boatbuilding facility to learn about its manufacturing and service technology programs. High school students toured the manufacturing facility, where they engaged in hands-on learning experiences, guided tours and interactive demonstrations.

“Parker Offshore is committed to fostering the next generation of innovators and skilled workers in the manufacturing industry,” vice president Sheila Glazewski said in a statement. “We believe that by partnering with local schools, we can provide valuable insights into our industry and encourage students to consider careers in manufacturing, particularly in boatbuilding.”

The partnership aims to educate students and strengthen the local community by encouraging youth to pursue careers in manufacturing, a field that plays a critical role in the economy of Carteret County.

“Collaborating with Parker Offshore offers our students a firsthand look at the manufacturing world,” Carteret Community College maritime programs coordinator Scott Leahy said in the statement. “We are thrilled to provide this experiential learning opportunity, helping students understand the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers in this vital industry.”
