PHOTO COURTESY SEA TOW FOUNDATIONThe Sea Tow Foundation said it is receiving more than $1 million in grants to advance its Life Jacket Loaner Program and Sober Skipper Campaign.
The life jacket grant will run for three years, the foundation said in a statement yesterday. There are more than 950 loaner stations around the country, and the funding will go toward purchasing new PFDs and stand-building kits, online promotion of the program through social media and virtual conferences, and the purchase of a customer relationship management database.
The Sober Skipper Campaign and scientific research grant will fund the continued promotion of the program until September 2023.
“We are thrilled to have additional funding to continue our important programs promoting boating safety through our educational programs and resources,” said Gail R. Kulp, the foundation’s executive director. “These grants help us achieve our mission of keeping the water a safe and fun place for everyone.”
The Sober Skipper grant also will fund an in-person study, conducted by a San Diego State University researcher, to determine whether reminding boaters to have a sober operator will impact their behavior.
