Vision Marine Technologies Inc., the Canadian maker of electrically powered boats and propulsion systems, yesterday broke its own speed record at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Missouri.
In a statement, Vision Marine said, “Our team managed to achieve a record-breaking speed of 111 mph during the first attempt. But we didn’t stop there. Demonstrating the sheer power and capabilities of our electric propulsion technology, we went on to set an even higher bar with an astonishing 116 mph during the second attempt.”
The boat that set the mark is a 32-foot racing catamaran with an enclosed cockpit built by S2 Power Boats, a new company founded by offshore racers Shaun Torrente and Sean Conner. Torrente is a former multi-time champion in Formula 1 tunnel boat racing and the two race currently in the Super Stock class. The E-Motion electric outboards were equipped with Mercury gearcases that were customized by Pat Weismann of Weismann Marine USA.
