Recently, I asked those who are boaters or cover boating on my list of e-mail writers if they knew what marina or dock gas was costing these days. I had a quick response, so thanks very much. Keep in mind this is an extremely unscientific poll.
I heard from boaters in Long Island, Hawaii, Maryland, Illinois, Wisconsin, New York, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Florida, Minnesota Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Arizona, Indiana, Connecticut and Virginia, with multiple inputs from many of the same states.
I heard from one dealer in Connecticut who sells gas on the water and he says they try to keep the costs as low as possible and a gallon goes for $3.75.
Among those reporting, the highest price per gallon at marinas was $4.32 in coastal Alabama, with ethanol fuel costing about 10 cents less.
Next highest were Long Island at $4.20 and southwest Florida at $4.25.
Lowest reporting cost was Virginia at $2.93, although the respondent said there was nary a boater in sight. Keep in mind it was a weekday.
With the exception of Virginia, all those reporting put the price in the $3 range with a minority over $4.
Average price per gallon among those who reported was $3.75 at marinas.
