District Sales Manager – District 12 (New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada & Central California)

Position Summary

The District Sales Manager is responsible for driving retail and wholesale sales growth, strengthening dealer relationships, and expanding Suzuki Marine’s market presence throughout District 12 (New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and Central California). This role serves as the primary business consultant to Suzuki Marine dealers, providing strategic guidance to improve dealership performance, inventory management, profitability, customer experience, and overall market share.

The District Sales Manager partners with both existing and prospective dealers to execute sales strategies, communicate corporate initiatives, develop new business opportunities, and ensure consistent brand representation throughout the district. Success in this role requires strong consultative selling skills, business acumen, relationship management, and the ability to travel extensively while working independently from a home office located within the assigned territory.

Key Responsibilities

Territory Sales & Business Development

  • Achieve assigned retail sales, wholesale sales, inventory, and market share objectives throughout District 12.
  • Identify, recruit, and develop qualified new Suzuki Marine dealers to expand market coverage.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with dealer principals, sales managers, and dealership staff.
  • Develop territory business plans and execute strategies to maximize sales opportunities and dealership profitability.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and customer demand to identify growth opportunities.

Dealer Performance & Consulting

  • Serve as a trusted business advisor by providing consultative recommendations to improve dealership operations, sales performance, and profitability.
  • Assist dealers in inventory planning, inventory turns, and product allocation to optimize retail performance.
  • Analyze dealership performance metrics and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support dealers in developing effective retail sales strategies and customer engagement initiatives.

Sales Programs & Marketing Support

  • Communicate and implement Suzuki Marine sales programs, promotions, incentives, and marketing initiatives.
  • Partner with dealers to maximize participation in corporate promotions, boat shows, dealer open houses, and local marketing events.
  • Collaborate with internal marketing teams to provide market feedback and recommend advertising opportunities that increase retail sales.

Product Knowledge & Training

  • Conduct product knowledge and sales training for dealer principals, sales teams, and dealership personnel.
  • Educate dealers on Suzuki Marine products, competitive advantages, and effective retail selling techniques.
  • Ensure dealerships maintain current knowledge of product updates, new model introductions, and sales programs.

Territory Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of dealer visits, sales activities, market intelligence, and territory performance.
  • Prepare timely reports regarding dealer performance, competitive activity, market trends, and business opportunities.
  • Communicate regularly with executive leadership regarding territory conditions and dealer needs.
  • Ensure dealer compliance with Suzuki Marine policies, procedures, and brand standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Sales Management, Marketing, Customer Relations, Finance, Warranty, Parts, and Logistics teams to resolve dealer issues and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with inventory allocation and product movement to maximize inventory turns and retail opportunities.
  • Support company initiatives and strategic projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must reside within District 12 (New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, or Central California).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Marine Technology, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful field sales, district sales management, dealership management, or equivalent experience within the marine, powersports, automotive, or related industry.
  • Demonstrated success developing customer relationships and achieving sales objectives.
  • Strong consultative selling, negotiation, and business development skills.
  • Working knowledge of sales planning, inventory management, retail operations, and dealership financial performance.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.

Working Conditions

  • Home office-based position located within District 12 (Arizona, Nevada, or Central California).
  • Overnight travel of approximately 60% or more is required throughout the assigned district.
  • Frequent travel by automobile and commercial airline.
  • Attendance at dealer meetings, boat shows, trade shows, open houses, and Suzuki Marine corporate meetings as required.
  • Ability to lift and transport marketing materials, displays, or product samples weighing up to 30 pounds.

Test Engineering Technician

Position Summary

The Test Engineering Technician will operate, maintain, and calibrate engine test equipment, exhaust emissions equipment, and instrumentation equipment for the purpose of in-laboratory engine testing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, maintain, and operate engine test equipment, emissions analysis equipment, and instrumentation used in the engine testing laboratory.
  • Instrument outboard marine engine test articles in preparation for testing.
  • Install outboard marine engine test articles into the engine test cell.
  • Execute test orders and report test data results.
  • Installation, maintenance, calibration, and configuration of test equipment (pressure sensors, temperature sensors. Specialized test equipment, etc.).
  • Interface with PCs and automation system as necessary to tailor automation and data acquisition system for specific tests.
  • Support product development engineers with product modifications for the domestic marine market.
  • Harmonize test procedures and workflow with Suzuki product development headquarters in Japan.
  • Develop or make recommendations on test procedures, test specifications, and testing equipment.
  • Be responsible for laboratory equipment record documentation and maintaining laboratory equipment against compliance standards.  Maintain a calibration schedule for laboratory measurement equipment and keep detailed calibration records that meet EPA 40CFR1065 criteria.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • Education:  Two-year technical degree in automotive technology, heavy-duty truck/engine technology, marine propulsion technology, or a related field.  Applicants without a technical degree may be considered if exhibiting extensive and specific relevant work experience (>7 years).
  • Work Experience:  A minimum of five (5) years of direct, relevant work experience in engine development and/or automotive testing with significant test equipment usage and support experience.

Position Summary

The Test Engineer will support and oversee the operations of the engine testing laboratory supporting product development and emissions certification.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct and support both in-house Performance & Emissions (P&E) testing activities of outboard marine Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) for purposes of product development, product verification, platform certification, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage and direct daily activities of internal technical staff.
  • Lead technical staff to maintain test system equipment including dynamometers, cooling tower(s), process water system, cooling systems, ventilation systems, fuel delivery systems, automation & data acquisition, and instrumentation.
  • Develop offline post-processing tools for computation, analysis, reporting, and presentation of test results.  Standardize reporting and presentation of standardized tests (emissions test reports, torque/power curves, fuel consumption mapping, heat rejection curves, etc.).
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for standardization of testing, data collection, and reporting.  Harmonize SOPs, test procedures, and workflow with Suzuki product development headquarters in Japan.
  • Work with Department Manager to specify and procure test equipment to increase engine calibration and emission testing capabilities as necessary.
  • Assist technical staff with troubleshooting and resolving issues associated with engine test equipment, emissions analysis equipment, and instrumentation used in the engine testing laboratory.
  • Draft test orders for test execution and report test data results.
  • Support technical staff with instrumenting outboard marine engine test articles in preparation for testing.
  • Support technical staff with installation of outboard marine engine test articles into the engine test cell.

  • Education:  Minimum of MSME/EE with three (3) yrs. of professional experience, BSME/EE with five (5) yrs. of professional experience, or BSAT/MET/EET with seven (7) yrs. of professional experience.
  • Work Experience:  Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in testing or calibration development of automotive, industrial, marine, or heavy-duty engines and/or vehicles.  Preference is 5+ years of relevant experience.
